Attention to Detail 7-10

John Wooden, UCLA's former great basketball coach who led his teams to ten consecutive national championships, was asked what he attributed his success to. Among a number of things, he mentioned that paying attention to details was one of the most important qualities for successful coaching and for high achievement in any worthwhile pursuit. He even paid attention to how his players would lace up and tie their shoe strings. If they didn't tie them correctly, he would teach them how.
Details may be small things, but from small things come great things; therefore, pay attention to details and you will experience substantial progress in your overall educational attainment.

Student Success Statement

SSS: "improve your performance by improving your attitude." -ANON
REFLECTION: I agree with this statement because it is stating that if you want to succeed something in life, then you must be respectful to everyone or anything that will help you achieve that goal or take you to that goal because if you dont, and you stay being disrespectful to them, then you will not go anywhere or achieve anything at all.
EXAMPLE: lets say you want an A on the upcoming test...if you want that grade and those two E's in the next progress report, then you must be respectful at all times.

5 Tips For Staying Motivated (Tips 3-5)

3. SET ATTAINABLE GOALS
If you're having trouble writing a 25-page paper for class because it seems like such a big job, don't focus on that final number. Break the paper down and consider each section of your paper individually. You can handle any project in small chunks.
4. FIND A SOCIAL SUPPORT NETWORK
Create a group of people around you who want to help you succeed. Mentors can be teachers or family friends who can give you guidance and help you develop new skills. Counselors can help you with planning your courses and starting to explore colleges. You can also reach out to friends and peers who can motivate you by listening and sharing ideas.
5. ACKNOWLEDGE YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Give yourself a quick reward when you complete an assignment or task. Take a walk, send an email, get a snack. Then move on to the next project.

Student Success Statement

SSS: "You have only always to do what is right. It will become easier by practice, and you enjoy in the midst of your trials the pleasure of an approving conscience." -Robert E. Lee

REFLECTION: I agree with this statement because it says that you will always have the time to do what is right or in other words you will always be able to do what is right whenever you want except to choose the wrong because there is never a right time to choose the wrong. It also states that, you will have the trials that pleasure of an approving conscience which means that your conscience will always allow you to choose the right and not make you have second thoughts about it.

EXAMPLE: When you have the chance to CTR, your conscience will always agree with you and not stop you from doing it because it is the right thing to do. :) <3

Student Success Statement

SSS: "I think its better to do right, even if we suffer in so doing, than to incur the reproach of our consciences and postperity."
BY: Robert E. Lee
REFLECTION: i agree witht this statement because its saying that it may hurt to tell the truth, but its better to be honest than to lie for the rest of you life. they may not be mad at you if you lie to them, but they will be mad at you forever when they find out that you've been lying this whole time. so i say its better to have them mad at you for a little while than for the rest of your life.
EXAMPLE: lets say you won a medal for having the highest grade on your science exam, but you do not feel like a champion because you cheated on it, therefore, you are thinking of telling the teacher the truth, but youre afraid to let her know, so you hold it in but then you see what it might be like in the future if you hold it in, so therefore, you go up to the teacher afterschool and let her know and she says its okay and that she'll let you retake the test. you retake it and get an 'A' then you feel proud of yourself.

Note-Taking Strategies (Part 2)

Stay by using the main section of your page to take down your notes during class. be sure to leave space on the left side of the page and the bottom. things to keep in mind:
1. get the speaker's main points. dont write down every word you hear.
2. leave blanks in your notes to add explanations later.
3. organize as you write. pay attention to cues such as repetition and emphasis.
4. indicate main and supporting points as you go.
5. jot down key vocabulary, important facts and formulas.
6. ask questions. if you're confused, it's better to ask while the material is fresh in your mind.

SSS: "what lies behind us lies before us are small matters compared to what lies within us."

REFLECTION: i agree with this statement because the person who we truely are, lie within us and no matter where we are and what we are doing because it wont matter what they say it will always depend on us and what we say. :)

EXAMPLE: lets say they are talking bad about you, you wont have to care because what they are saying aint true they are only trying to talk bad about you and hurt your feelings </3 but anyways, always be yourself.

Balancing High School and Part-Time Work (Part 4)

Balancing High School and Part-Time Work (Part 4)
He reminds students that “the activities and courses students choose vary considerably, so it’s important for young people to keep their individual situations clearly in mind.” McGowan continues. “For the fact that they won’t have as much time during performance seasons. Students athletes need to remember the times of the year that they’ll be tied up with games and practices. Other students who are in classes that make considerable demands outside of the classroom must keep that really in mind.”

Man Returns Stolen Money From Sears

SUMMARY: well this man chose the right by returning some money that he stole from sears, 60 years ago!!! it may have been late and all but maybe he returned it because of the guilt he felt. he made sure it was given to the sears manager because he handed it to him himself, not being ashamed, well maybe not im not sure. but yeah he gave the amount he took, plus more money for interest.

REFLECTION: I believe that what he did was a very brave, corageous, and intense thing to do. i really apreciated that noble thing he did even if he wasnt apologizing to me. CTR!!!!!!!!!!!

Math

Selecting Your Courses
Part 2
The following subjects and classes are standard fare for success in high school and beyond, whether you plan to attend a four-year or two-year college.
English (Language Arts)
Take English every year. Traditional courses, such as American and English Literature, help you improve your writing skills, reading comprehension and vocabulary.
Math
You need algebra and geometry to succeed in college entrance exams and in college math classes—and in many careers. Take them early in. That way, you’ll be able to enrolling advanced science and math in high school, and show colleges you’re ready for higher level work.
Most colleges look for students who have taken three years of math in high school. The more competitive ones require or recommend four years. Each school has its own program, but some of the courses that are typically offered are:
·    Algebra I
·    Algebra II
·    Geometry
·    Trigonometry
·    Calculus

Selecting Your Courses (Part 1)

The academic rigor of your high school courses is an important factor in the college admission process. College admission officers see your high school course schedule  as a blueprint of your education. They’re looking for a solid foundation of learning that you can build on in college.
To create that information, take at least five solid academic classes every semester. Start with the basics and then move on to advanced courses. Challenging yourself is part of what makes school fun; but you need a firm grasp of the fundamentals before going on to more advanced work.

SSS: " improvement begins with 'i' "           -Anon

REFLECTION: i believe that this statement is true because when you want to choose the right, YOU are the one that starts to do it not someone else for you because its your way and your option on how you want to do it. and when someone else chooses it for you, then it ends up beign wrong and not the way you wanted it to go. The Walking Horses training regiment Uncovered

SUMMARY: the walking horse is an event held in Tennessee every year. these horses are neccisarily bred through natural selection. the sir Mr. Jackie MCconnell would make a lot of money because he was known for trianing horses..... but little did they know that he wouldnt even train them... he would just practically kill them!!! ABC news investigated what was going on with these horses when he claimed that he would be training them. they sended a secret camera in to go seek out what was happening, and what they caught on camera was very, very, verrrrrry brutal and harsh. i dont understand how they could do such a thing. they would do the worst things to these poor little horses' hooves! put them in plenty of pain! lucky, with the footage they caught, they saved those poor horses from that evil little man!!!

REFLECTION: i believe that what this man did was very very wrong and brutal at the same time. he chose the wrong and had to pay the price for it...so that means that he could kiss the money he made goodbye!
