Attention to Detail 7-10

John Wooden, UCLA's former great basketball coach who led his teams to ten consecutive national championships, was asked what he attributed his success to. Among a number of things, he mentioned that paying attention to details was one of the most important qualities for successful coaching and for high achievement in any worthwhile pursuit. He even paid attention to how his players would lace up and tie their shoe strings. If they didn't tie them correctly, he would teach them how.
Details may be small things, but from small things come great things; therefore, pay attention to details and you will experience substantial progress in your overall educational attainment.

SSS: "Everyone is the architect of their own learning." -CLAUDIUS
REFLECTION: I agree with this statement because it is stating that we should choose the right and be responsible and take responsibility of our actions and attitudes towards other people or things.

Cool Under Pressure 6-10

Very few students enjoy taking tests. Yet functioning well under pressure is crucial to your future success. try thinking of the pressure of testing as practice for the work world's own explosive situations. You could someday find yourself meeting tight deadlines, speaking with irate customers, wielding a scalpel or handling dangerous chemicals.
The best ways to curtail pressure and to even eliminate it is to prepare. Applying the motto "Be Prepared" holds true first time and every time. Prepare for that test, and you won't worry about it. Preparation generates energy and enthusiasm; therefore, prepare and your coolness under pressure is sure to abound.

SSS: "Start with what is right rather than what is acceptable." -Peter F. Drucker
REFLECTION: I agree with this statement because it is stating that we should do whatever is neccesary other than what is okay because what is neccassary is is something you must do by force because what is "okay", isn't always really okay its sometimes actually wrong at times.
PICTURE:

Initiative 5-10

Initiative is creativity, inventiveness, originality, ingenuity, imagination. And future employers value can-do professionals who come up with new ideas and chart their own court through projects, employees who are self-reliant. Self-reliant people are self-starters who don't procrastinate on getting the job done. They know what is required to do and do it. They don't wait be told many times. Succeeding in high school, college, and in the career world is taking the initiative.

SSS: "TO BE GREAT--CONCENTRATE." -Orson Swett Marden
REFLECTION: I agree with this statement because it is stating that if we want to achieve something, we must stay focused on it and not lose concentration at all because we will never reach it.
EXAMPLE: For example if you want to get a good grade on a test, you must try hard and study hard as well.
PICTURE:

Problem-Solving Skills 4-10

Problem solving goes far beyond your math textbook. Every assignment is an opportunity to weigh all possible solutions carefully and choose the one you think is best,. As a working professional, you'll be solving  problems regularly, whether it's fixing a bug in a computer program or overcoming budget shortfalls. Problem solving situations occur extensively and frequently; there, be ready when then come.
When problems or challenges occur, some people look at negative experiences, as a crisis. They look on the bright side of things and live happy lives.

My Day Today :) 5/24/13

I think that may day was very interesting today. It sucked because i was unable to go on the field trip, but it was a funny day because i met new cool people during lunch and the substitute for 4th period was a delight to have because he was funny and weird and random all at the same time. I hope we get to have him some other time :D I loved the fact that the new friends i made during lunch were so crazy and random like me :) That's how you know that you're gonna be life long friends :) Then there was a lot of drama in 5th period do to relationship problems with me and my friend Lupe  :( But since we had each other, we made each other laugh and stay happy throughout the whole period. And now, here i am in 6th typing the period away c:

Student Success Statement

SSS: "Education is a marathon--not a sprint" -ANON
REFLECTION: I agree with this statement because it is stating that education is a goal that you must achieve. not something that you have the choice to choose, but something that you must succeed in.
EXAMPLE: An example is like, if you want to become a veterinarian you must get the knowledge first, you cannot become one simple as that because if you do, you will not know what to do.
PICTURE:

Teamwork Skills 3-10

Every time your class breaks into groups to tackle a challenge, you build teamwork skills.
T ogether

Individually you can achieve so much, but when you work with others for a common cause, the same objectives, you can accomplish a tremendous amount more. You synergize your talents, knowledge, and skills with those whom you work. All members of the team are edified together, a type of edification you can't obtain by working alone.

SSS: "THE MAN WHO HAS NO IMAGINATION, HAS NO WINGS" -Muhammad Ali
REFLECTION: I agree with this statement because it is stating that a man who has no imagination or in other words, a man who has no dreams, or goals to achieve, will not achieve them because he is not trying to achieve them and cant because he does not dream.(does not have wings). your wings are the helpers to succeeding your dream :)
EXAMPLE: Lets say you want to become a cheerleader, you've always wanted to become a cheerleader your whole life. But have you ever used your wings to help you achieve your dream or take you to your dream? You must dream so you can picture what you would look like and how wonderful you would look as a cheerleader. fly so you could get to it!

Speaking Skills 2-10

When you're assigned a class presentation, think twice before dismissing it as an unimportant part of your education. It's never too soon to practice good eye contact and other public speaking techniques.
According to The Book of Lists, the fear of public speaking ranks number one in the minds of the majority of people. Far above the fear of death and disease, comes the fear of standing in front of a crowd. Joel Weiner noted author and public speaker wants to help people overcome that fear.
"The biggest fear is public speaking, with 15 percent of American experiencing a dramatic fact of it," said Dr.Michael Telch of the Laboratory for the Study of Anxiety Disorders (LSAD) in the Department of Psychology at The University of Texas at Austin. "People have had to turn down jobs, and certainly students have dropped classes because of it."
Regardless of your occupation, your success depends a great deal upon your ability to communicate effectively! Whether you're running a meeting, selling a product, making a presentation, motivation co-workers or just communicating one-on-one with others, you'll get far better results if you can speak persuasively, smoothly and intelligently.

SSS: "NOTHING IN THE WORLD CAN TAKE THE PLACE OF PERSISTENCE. TALENT WILL NOT; NOTHING IS MORE COMMON THAN UNSUCCESSFUL MEN WITH TALENT. GENIUS WILL NOT; THE WORLD IS FULL OF EDUCATED DERELICTS. PERSISTENCE AND DETERMINATION ALONE ARE OMNIPOTENT. THE SLOGAN 'PRESS ON' HAS SOLVED AND ALWAYS WILL SOLVE THE PROBLEMS OF THE HUMAN RACE." -Calvin Coolidge, 30th president of the United States
REFLECTION: I AGREE with this statement because it is stating that nothing but absolutely nothing can change your persistence and those who try to take it away are choosing the wrong and never will as long as you choose the right and stay focused on what you want to achieve.

Writing Skills 1-10

Communication is at the top of the list of skills that employers look for. And communication in the workplace often means writing.
Health professionals keep patient charts, researchers depend on the money they collect by writing grant applications, software engineers write technical specifications, and writing serious and doing your best on every research paper, every lab report you write, every new post you write in your blog site, and every writing activity.

REFLECTION: I agree with statement because it is stating that whenever you do something wrong on purpose, when you know that doing the right is neccesary, and yet you still don't do it, then you are in need of a good lecture by Mr.Haymore about choosing the right because you really need to know what are the defiant consequences of them.

SSS: "Persistence can change failure into extraordinary achievement." -Matt Biondi
REFLECTION: I agree with this statement because it is stating that if you try hard to achieve your goal or something that you really want, then that hard work will pay off, but if you did not try at all, then you will have to be the one that will have to pay!!! CTR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
EXAMPLE: If you try hard on a test, you will receive an amazing grade but if you dont try then you will failllllllllllllll!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Exam Day: Survival Tips (Part 2)

DURING THE TEST
READ THE DIRECTIONS.
It's important that you follow the instructions exactly. For example, some questions may have more than one correct answer.
ANSWER EASY QUESTIONS FIRST.
Doing this can jog your memory about useful facts. You may also come across information that can help you with other questions.
ANSWER EVERY QUESTION.
Unless there is a penalty for wrong answers, try to answer every question; you may be able to get partial credit for those you begin but don't complete correctly.
ASK QUESTIONS.
If a question isn't clear, talk to your teacher. If that's not possible, explain your answer in the margin.

REFLECTION: I agree with this statement because it is stating that if you want to succeed something in life, then you must be respectful to everyone or anything that will help you achieve that goal or take you to that goal because if you dont, and you stay being disrespectful to them, then you will not go anywhere or achieve anything at all.
EXAMPLE: lets say you want an A on the upcoming test...if you want that grade and those two E's in the next progress report, then you must be respectful at all times.

Online Learning (Part 1) and STUDENT SUCCESS STATEMENT

READ BETWEEN THE LINES
Make a judgement about the site's reliability based on your own analysis and the site and the information it contains. Here are some ways to do this:

  • Look for facts you know or can check with a trusted source. If the site gets those facts right, it's most likely than the other facts on the site are also accurate.
  • study the language used. is it angry, satiric or overly impassioned? this may indicate that the site is biased.
  • consider whether the arguments are logical and backed up by evidence, and whether the site presents only one point of view.

DOT-WHAT?
LOOKING AT THE SITE'S ADDRESS. WHAT FOLLOWS THE DOT?

    • DOT-MIL is used by sites that are part of the military.
    • DOT-edu usually indicates a university website. while it's published research is generally considered very trustworthy, anyone associated with the university, whether a world-renowned scholar on a freshman, can be given space on its server. professors sometimes put student course work up on the web, but that doesn't mean they're vouching for the information's accuracy.

IREFLECTION: agree with this statement because it is stating that we do not have to be perfect at certain things, that it only matters to try and try your best in everything you do.
EXAMPLE: for example: only try hard on a test you dont have to be successful in everything.

RESEARCH WITH ATTITUDE

  • Who wrote the Web page? If you can't identify the individual or organization information, don't use it.
  • what are the authors qualifications for writing on the subject?
  • has the article passed through an editorial process designed to ensure quality and accuracy?
  • what is the website's purpose? look for motives- like selling products or winning votes - that could result in biased or incomplete information.
  • is the information accurate? is it up-to-date?
  • where did the author get this information?

USING THE WEB WISELY
Thanks to the Web, information is easy to find. However, it's also easy to post something online. Anyone can do it.
You've probably used the Internet to do research for a paper, to help you decide which product to buy, or to form an opinion about current events.
How can you tell a reliable source from an unreliable one? Also, is it critical that you post up online only that which is decent and appropriate, never anything pornographic, vulgar, indecent, out of taste, untruthful, or obscene. Post those things that will make a good name for you and your organization, that will promote goodwill and be of benefit to the world.

REFLECTION: I agree with this statement because it is saying that if you suffer from consequences or something you don't like, then it will not be the conflicts fault, it will be your fault because somehow you managed to mess it up.
EXAMPLE: For example: When you fail a test, and you tried your best and yet you failed, then it was not the testes fault, it was your fault because you rushed through it.

RECITE
At the end of each section, look up from the text and in your own words recite an answer to your question for that section. Then write down your answer. Then be sure to provide examples to support it.
Now repeat the question, read and recite steps for each section of the chapter. First ask a question for the next section. Then read to find the answer. Finally, recite the answer in your own words and jot it down. The written questions and answers can help you study in the future.

REVIEW
After completing the chapter, review your notes. Identify the main points by looking for the most important idea in each section. Recite, or write, a brief summary of the assignment.
Review your study notes every week to help you remember the information. When it's time to prepare for your tests, you'll find you've created an invaluable study guide.

QUESTION: As you survey the text, ask a question for each. Ask what, why, how, when, who and where questions as they relate to the content. Here's how you can create questions:

  • Turn the title, headings or subheadings into questions.
  • rewrite the questions at the end of the chapter or after each subheading in your own words.
Write down your questions. Questions help you pay attention, understand the text better and recall the information more easily later on.
READ
Read one section of the chapter at a time, actively looking for an answer to your question for that section. Pay attention to bold and italicized text that authors use to make important points.
Be sure to review everything in that section, including tables, graphs and illustrations - these features can communicate an idea more powerfully than written text.
